The Salem Witch Trials lasted from August to September of 1692. Nineteen men and women were accused and hanged for witchcraft, and even more were accused and imprisoned. One man was crushed to death! This all began in a superstitious town called Salem Village with two little girls who got sick. Their cause for being sick could be none other than witchcraft. Everyone became frightened.
The devil was in Salem Village! That news spread like fire across the village. And then Tituba, the Indian slave of the afflicted girls, confessed. And to save her life, she accused another witch. Ann Putnam Jr. started accusing more witches. Until everyone was scared. The Salem Witch Trials caused everyone to turn on each other due to the fear of being considered a witch and being executed.
The Salem Witch Trials had a huge affect. It made our court system a whole lot better, and it probably had a role in coming up with our amendments. This is the story of the Salem Witch Trials.
